Elevate Your Style: 8 Simple Tips to Look Off-Duty Chic.

If you suffer from the infamous Adam Sandler mom style when running errands (or 24/7 if you’re me) then here are some ways you can elevate your style to look less casual and more “model off-duty”!

*Disclaimer!* This guide is for those (including myself) who want to look less like Adam Sandler, but there’s nothing wrong with that look! If you’re happy and comfy then that’s all that matters! But for those who want to elevate their look in small ways, keep reading!

  1. Buttery Soft Bike Shorts
If you’re a band tee girl like myself (or graphic tee lover) then switch the bottoms from something baggy to something more form fitting. This will elevate the tee from college kid on a study break to off-duty cutie!

2. Sneakers With Good Support
Ditch the Crocs (I know, they’re ultra comfy) for some sneakers that have good foot support. I personally love these Sketchers (pictured above)!

3. Bleach Your Whites
I don’t personally wear white, but if you love a white tee outfit then be sure to give them a little love with some bleach to maintain their crisp look. It’ll truly give life back to your white tees with almost no effort.

4. Good Quality Yoga Pants
Another easy and comfy switch is sweats to yoga pants! Good quality yoga pants are perfect for running to the grocery store in easy style. Plus, like bike shorts, they come in so many colors, patterns, and fits!

5. Cute Sweatshirt
Instead of your old hoodie try instead a cute sweatshirt. There are so many to choose from; your college, your kid’s school, your favorite band or city, and more!

6. Renewing Your Sneakers
Give your well-loved sneakers/shoes some TLC. Clean them according to their care tag, and switch out the laces if they’re starting to look tattered. Breathing new life into your shoes will instantly update your look!

7. Accessorize
Adding some trendy sunnies or a sparkly necklace will elevate your outfit with items you already own! My favorite underrated accessory is a good mani!

8. Ditch The Conventional Diaper Bag
Speaking of accessories, if you’re a mom with tots you don’t have to use a regular diaper bag! There are no rules! I use a cute black vegan leather backpack I bought at TJ Maxx for $34! It’s the perfect size for my family with two under two. It holds all my babies’ essentials plus mine. Get creative and find your dream bag to use as a diaper bag!

To summarize:

  1. Swap baggy sweats for form-fitting buttery bike shorts to elevate your band or graphic tee.
  2. Replace Crocs with sneakers that have great support.
  3. Keep white tees crisp with a little bleach.
  4. Another easy switch is sweats to good quality yoga pants.
  5. Choose a cute sweatshirt over an old hoodie.
  6. Refresh well-loved sneakers by cleaning them and replacing tattered laces.
  7. Accessorize with trendy sunglasses or a sparkly necklace.
  8. Use a stylish bag you love as an alternative diaper bag.

So there you have it, small ways to elevate your style without having to toss out your entire wardrobe! Plenty of stores offer good quality basics now if you do decide to add some new pieces to your wardrobe! From Amazon to Walmart to Abercrombie. Don’t forget that you can always thrift them too, especially if you’re on a tight budget. Stores like Plato’s Closet and Uptown Cheapskate are perfect for this!
